Author Biography

Vera  Beaumont’s sense of adventure manifested itself when she graduated from college in Germany and took a job as an airline stewardess with Lufthansa instead of spending time in university lecture halls. Foreign countries and cities were just dots on the map without images and without feeling. They had to be explored. In her job, she used every opportunity to advance her position and apply for long-distance routes, which allowed her to crisscross all continents. Many lesser-known countries were still out of reach. That made them all the more desirable. After two years on the job and a few weeks of thorough planning, Vera set out to travel around the globe.

Her curiosity about all strata of life led her to meet many interesting people, from the lowest Indian fakir (people who live by begging) to diplomats and high-powered governors. While she attended the Sorbonne in Paris, a handsome young Count wooed her into marriage. It seemed like an appropriate ending to an exciting career. The young couple lived in an estate in the South of France. However, life’s promises are not always guaranteed. The marriage ended in divorce.

Vera decided to abandon her life of luxury and accepted a job assignment in Algiers. The call of the wild beckoned, exploring the Sahara, learning about the life of nomads, finding the legendary “blue men” of the desert. However, the daily life-to-life experiences revealed the cruel truth that the most peaceful person cannot live in a war-torn country. In search for tranquility, Beaumont decided to move to Switzerland and lived in Zurich.

After a year, she decided to relocate to New York, a city she always loved. She studied for a Ph.D. in Psychology and after completing her studies took job as a Human Resources Manager in New York City. “I loved this job,” she explains. “So many different characters. So many issues and - what I love most - so many problems that can be solved.”

When it was time to retire but too early to quit, Vera opened her own office as a psycho-therapist. “Something I always wanted to do,” she said. “My patients were relieved to be helped. At the same time, they gave me so much insight into the human psyche. I sometimes felt I benefitted as much as they did from our therapy sessions.”

Throughout the years, Vera Beaumont continued to travel. Her love for adventure continued. “It always will,” she says, “My main motto has always been: I am at home everywhere and nowhere. I never am a stranger and I never quite belong.”

That motto had changed when she chose the USA as her permanent home and became a naturalized citizen. After closing her therapy office, Vera Beaumont moved to Florida with copious volumes of handwritten notes. “I never had time to put these all together. Now I will. All the countries I visited and all the people I saw are now in my head and many of my earlier experiences are preserved in writing. There are books to be written and tales to be told.”

It seems we can expect many more novels from this author.
